Rarely do we have a stroke of luck so fortuitous as to change the course of our lives. If we’re always counting on that for our big break, we will likely be captive to our circumstances. The key is simple determination and application of mind and body. The discipline to wake up every day with an indomitable spirit is not always easy. It’s easier to shirk the responsibility until tomorrow. It’s easier to put off the difficult task that’s calling, even demanding, than to confront the fact that I could fail in my attempt to conquer it. Procrastination isn’t wholly bad in and of itself; finding the one million excuses why I shouldn’t do it is the issue. Life is full of boring and even unpleasant tasks. Learning to conquer oneself is far more the game than being proficient at every task I undertake. Just be consistent. Do what I need to do today. Discipline yourself for the mundane. Life is rarely more than a never-ending tide of menial tasks that if you leave undone because of their banality you will miss the entire intent of what life is. Engaging the bane of life in a meaningful and intentional manner is what makes life so interesting. Don’t wait for a stroke of luck. Keep going. Keep fulfilling your role and mission in life. And who knows? You might just strike gold along the way.
