A stalwart commitment to God’s Word and right doctrine is essential to navigate the difficult days in which we live. This commitment exceeds a 45-minute sermon or any amount of time spent in an organized church setting. While many pulpits have turned into mere platforms for moralizing and inspiring, God’s clarion call for truth is as true as ever. Paul warned us that in the last days, many would turn from the truth because of itching ears, a clear reference to our society’s propensity to seek out speakers who are more concerned with teaching socially acceptable principles than the clear-cut Word of God. Ecclesiastical separation has become a byword. Sin is not exceedingly sinful and holiness is now a standard or preference rather than the absolute being of God.
More than ever we need a defined life in God’s Word—reading, meditating, and applying Biblical truth for our day today. While this may be seen as arcane and insensitive to our standards of what is a church in today’s age, it is the intentional application and obedience to God’s Word that will make the difference. Don’t wait to take up this obligation only on a Sunday morning but moment by moment allowing the Spirit of God to use His infallible perfect Word to reprove, rebuke, and exhort our lives for His honor and glory.
